Date Palms is a meditation on time and being. It explores the elastic nature of our relationship with time; how our sensory harbors can make it seem to vanish or elongate. It is poetry as a condensation of the history that lives in our bodies into the immediacy of the moment. Through this telescoping it achieves a kind of dewdrop clarity, a snapshot of the panorama you can palm.
Sophia considers poetry a state of being that may be expressed in any medium and as such considers the primary work of the poet to be the constant refinement of awareness. Intimate and expansive by turns. Date Palms is also a celebration of the body as a fruit ripe with the sweet ache of longing, its pleasure heightened by the awareness of its eventual expiration.
